Amazing Places To Visit - Part 1

Krishna's Butterball - Mahabalipuram(Tamilnadu)

Krishna’s Butterball is a  tourist attraction in Mahabalipuram, a town about 60 km south of Chennai famous for its stone carvings.
The “butterball” is a giant balancing rock, 5 mtrs in diameter, perched on a smooth slope, seemingly defying all laws of physics.

Krishna's butter ball

The rock is balanced upon a 4 feet area of the hill.
Its simple physics that a structure needs a 250 ton rock has a far-fetched chance of resting on a 4 feet area for such
a long period. To site imagery, imagine a ball on a slope, unless it has a heavy footing it rolls down pretty fast.

krishnas-butterball-1

This huge rock boulder is quite popular with locals and tourists alike as it makes for an interesting backdrop for some stylish photographs. Tourists may sit under the cool shade of the rock and can have their photographs taken.

One of the most common sights is of visitors placing hands under the stone posing for pictures, which looks as though they are holding it. Children can enjoy sliding down the hillside as it is a great natural slide.

India's First Sea bridge - Pamban Bridge In Rameswaram

The Pamban Rail bridge, an engineering marvel and India’s first cantilever bridge.

After feasibility study, a proposal on “Indo-Ceylon project” was sent to the British Parliament for building a rail bridge from Mandapam to Pamban and from Danushkodi to Thalaimannar at an estimated cost of Rs. 299 lakh. The British Parliament rejected the project, stating that the cost of the project was too high. It, however, gave its nod for the Pamban rail bridge at a cost Rs 70 lakh in 1880.

Soon the excavation work began and the South Indian Railway commenced the bridge construction in 1902.

Pamban

The railway bridge is 6,776 ft (2,065 m) long. It was opened on 24 February 1914, construction having begun in 1911.
If a person wants to reach Rameswaram Island , We should have to cross this bridge.(If you travel by the train you may see this massive bridge through your window, when the train passes the sea through the Pamban Rail Bridge.

The Pamban bridge was the only link between Rameswaram and the mainland until 1988 when a road bridge, running parallel to it, was built. Earlier, it used to transport hundreds of pilgrims everyday to the temple in the island.
